Great catch Jethro but the way you are catching shrimp seem to take the "sport"
out of shrimping. For food,.."yes." Sport,...I don't think so. You say, "steady
running for three months." Five gallons a night? Where is the fun and sport in that?
That is why we call our shrimping, "Sport Shrimping." I don't think you can call
shrimping, like on a trawler, a sport?

I guess we will have to "walk in each others shoes" before we be to judgmental of
how we shrimp. All I can tell you is, our shrimpers have a great time shrimping and
getting to know one another year after year.

Glad to hear from you.

We have a contest over here to find the biggest shrimp but havent had any shrimp over 8" up against a tape measure. Mantis shrimp dont count. Otherwise for our "sport of it we let alot swim by and nab only the prawns.

I smell a lil tension or jealousy in here. Millimeters or inches? WTF. I better not post again in here. Enjoy your sport shrimping.

Nah, Don is just prodding you a bit. All in the name of sportsmanship and all.

It's the old "who's.... is bigger" discussion. :?

Haven't heard from you in a bit. How is the shrimping on the East Coast? Did you get roughed up any with the remnants of Barry? We haven't been able to get out all weekend. With the tides being what they are, it has been about 2 weeks since we were able to get out.

Our web site tells a person how to look for shrimp. If they find shrimp,
we tell them how to catch them. If they catch shrimp, we tell them how
to clean them. How to package them. How to freeze them. How to
cook them, and how to eat them. We teach our fellow shrimpers how
to enjoy shrimp and shrimping.

WE SHARE OUR KNOWLEDGE.

We also tease others about who out shrimps the others. Who caught
the biggest shrimp. We kid about a person going behind the others,..
picking up the small shrimp left behind. There is all kinds of kidding
going on. It all in fun.

I hope our East Coast friends are better sportsmen than they are sports.

P.S. I see nothing wrong with what anyone has said in any E-mails.

You just ousted one of the best in our area - He's usually the one that starts it - I see he's met his match. His skin is tough but I don't think you understand your comment...

Over here we must compete with the trawlers (actually they are wing netters - commercial guys anyway) for shrimp sometimes. We have FWC breathing down our necks all the time.

So what you have is a guy that hand dipped what you see in them buckets - it is hard laborious work that is fun and we enjoy it. Sometimes you're on em sometimes you're not - we see streams so thick at times you can't dip just hold the net down till it's full. Jethro has had a Shrimping web site packed full of great info and he has gone out of his way to help folks learn about the great sport of recreational shrimping ever since I can remember at least the last 12 years.

On another post another guy Frank - he's also one of Jethro's followers so to speak as well as I although I've never met the man I've read everything he's posted (the good and the bad). Frank and I belong to a club which Jethro with a group of others started some years back at least 6 years ago. This club has grown from those few guys who enjoyed shrimping in Oak Hill to over 1,000 members and just a few years ago started taking dues to help support the cost to run it and reduce the free loaders who weren't active. Now the club has dropped back down to a manageable number of around 200-250 active members.

This club that is based out of the River Breeze area Oak Hill - called Internet Shrimpers and Anglers Assoc. and it's website is ISAA.cc. It's a paid members only club but not expensive. It's about Fishing, Shrimping, sharing and family as well as caring for the Lagoon. You'll not met a better group of folks anywhere else. These Guys and Gals share not only the sport but their skills and when the storms came through they all pitched in to help each other out. I've helped cleared trees off houses, put on roofs, build a huge barn, help clear off junk from a property and we've been one the top performer in the Volusia/St Johns water Management and Beveard River Clean ups for years. It's not uncommon for a member to get stranded out on the lagoon and call for help and have a fellow member come to their rescue even in the middle of the night.

I'm not soliciting for members just cluing you in that a few of us will probably drop in because of a post in our forums by another great guy that hails by the name of Slacker who lives on the west side. Yes our members are all over the place and some are fighting in the war, heck we even got a Yankie who lives in New York and a Canadian that fly down to join in at our BBQ's or to go shrimping.

As for Jethro - well back in the beginning of ISAA there was some kind of fall out and ever since then he's parted ways - I'd still like to met him someday because I never judge people by the past or what others think. However, I've been on Fla Sportsmen forums for many years and well there were a few threads that I think could have been handled a little differently. Everyone changes over time and sometimes they are just misunderstood.

Just though I'd give you a heads up. Like what you've done and although our techniques differ we have the common bond of loving those sweet little water bugs.

Tight lines & 5 Gals,
Vince
